Accessibility Statement

This website is run by Gargrave Parish Council.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website and have built it with accessibility in mind.

For example, this means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard, touch pad or screen
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text and layout as simple and clean as possible to understand.
The site is not designed in a way that is known to cause seizures or physical reactions.

How accessible is this website in reality?

No we can’t make the whole site accessible for all, we do know some parts of this website are not fully accessible, for example:

  • some older PDF documents aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some images don’t have alt text to describe the scene

We are working on ways to improve on this in the future, where possible on a technical and practical level.

Gargrave Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Issues with technology

It may not be possible for users to access all content on all browsers.  Browsers will differ, you may have to try different browsers until you find a solution that suits your particular needs.

Issues with text

Some link texts may not make sense when read on their own, however these will be in context with associated copy that will make sense.

As these issues are isolated and the text is in context we see no reason to change the text. If this causes you an issue please contact us.

Issues with PDFs and other documents

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents may not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader or the pdf is a scanned document and hence the content is an image not live text.

The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

For example, we don’t plan to fix non-essential documents, however, any documents of importance that do not comply and fall after the 23 September 2018 will be converted by the 1 October 2020.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Issues with images, video and audio

Certain older images on the site don’t have alternative text.

We plan to add alt text to all images on the site page by 1 October 2020.
